4 More Teams Clinch #AEMSOC Bids, Week #10 Awards Announced

BOSTON – Four teams -UMBC, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and Vermont- joined Stony Brook as squads that have qualified for the 2018 #AEMSOC Championship, which begins Saturday. The Seawolves sit in first place with 15 points and have secured at least a share of the league’s regular season title. Vermont follows in second with 12 points, UNH is third (10), UMBC and UMass Lowell each have nine, UAlbany and Binghamton are both at six and Hartford, which has been eliminated from consideration, is at four. The championship bracket will be announced following games on Wednesday evening.

Friday: Stony Brook 6, at Hartford 0
Saturday: Vermont 1, at Binghamton 0

Here are the conference's week #10 award winners:

Offensive Player of the Week
Serge Gamwanya, Stony Brook – Sr., Midfielder, Trondheim, Norway
  • Had a goal and as assist in Stony Brook’s win over Hartford.
  • This is his third #AEMSOC Offensive Player of the Week award this season (9/10, 9/17).
Defensive Player of the Week
Clay Thomas, Vermont – So., Goalkeeper, Purcellville, Va.
  • Earned a shutout win over Binghamton by stopping all four shots he faced.
  • This is Thomas’ second Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season (10/1).
Rookie of the Week
Christian Miesch, Stony Brook – Fr., Goalkeeper, Brig, Switzerland
  • Earned his fourth shutout of the year in a win over Hartford Friday.
  • This is Miesch’s first Rookie of the Week award of the season.
